The Coming of Cthulhu is a departure for me in several ways. I decided that I would like to tone back my style of chaotic texture, and focus more on color and background, which I think turned out very well in this peice - the sky seems reminiscent of Frank Frazetta or Boris. I also wanted to reduce the amount of extra detail in the piece, and try to focus on the subject themselves, and capture a more 'painted' look. I also experimented with a new production method, printing this piece as a Giclee on 100# watercolor paper, rather than offset or digital print. The result was a remarkable print that blew away all expectations of quality that I had. I have several more pieces lined up and I intend to explore this style with them as well, so we shall see by summertime what the results are!

This particular piece was a commission for Cthulhu Sex Magazine, for issue 22 - which should be out in May/June. This piece is influenced by the H.P. Lovecraft tentacled God Cthulhu and the demon Lilith, who was featured as a minor character in a few of his writings. Many of you are familiar with my other Lilith piece - and to avoid being repetitive, I saught out a model who's stature and body were almost opposite of the original model I used in my Lilith piece from 2002. I wanted this Lilith to be majestic, regal and powerful - much different than the sensual, sultry and dreamy appearance of Playboy model Veronika in 'Dreams of Lilith'.

I can't describe the beauty of this piece, and I'm sure you will agree when you see it for yourself.
